Tuesday with Morrie

Reading is my hobby besides watching movie. Recently I read “Tuesday with Morrie”, true story novel written by Mitch Alborn. I really love the book that I almost told everyone about it hahaha…

Simply speaking, “Tuesday with Morrie” tells story about the last months of Morrie due to ASL disease he suffered. Morrie is an old man, was a teacher in university back then. In his last time on earth, by coincidence Morrie met Mitch Alborn, his ex-student in university, and gave Mitch the last lecture about life.

Morrie taught Mitch (and us) how a dying man see life, that many things once he valued became worthless and vice versa. In the middle chapter Morrie said there are 3 most important things in life:

  1. devote yourself to loving others
  2. devote yourself to your community around you
  3. devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning

I thing most people today are similar to Mitch, devote him/herself to something valuable according to society and streamline. It can be certain position in multinational company, it can be 8 digit Rupiah in every month paycheck. Morrie told Mitch that materials will never satisfy us, and deep inside I agreed with him.

Well I think it is time for us to look inside our heart to find what means most to us, and follow our heart. Do you think so?
