Yesterday I participated in virtual ITB Ultra Marathon. This was their first virtual run happened due to COVID-19 pandemic situation.
The event announcement was abrupt, but our team managed to register 7 groups. Our team, CodeRunner, consists of Informatics Engineering alumni from ITB. I have joined this team since about 2 years ago. If you are a programmer, you should understand the pun on “CodeRunner”.
The original concept of the ITB Ultra Marathon is a relay race from Jakarta to the ITB campus in Bandung. The virtual concept we still have a team, but we run in our own preferred place and time. The committee only limits running time on 12th December from 5am to 5pm.
This was my group, assigned by the committee from the CodeRunner team.
Considering social distancing situation, each of our group member ran alone. I ran at Monas, circling Monas 3 times.
Was virtual ITB Ultra Marathon fun? Yes! But it’s not as fun as the conventional concept. There’s more euphoria when we meet fellow alumni running on the street. There’s more teamwork effort to prepare all operations so that the team members can run safely and comfortably from Jakarta to Bandung.
