I’ve been playing Axie Infinity in the last few months. I was introduced by James, my game buddy, we used to play Mabinogi Duel and Shadowverse. He came at the right time because I was looking for a good game since Shadowverse and a new investment instrument hahaha..
In short, we have to “invest” by buying axie using ETH to play the game. We will earn SLP though various mechanisms: arena (PVP), adventure (PVE), and daily quest. SLP is used for breeding, therefore we can sell it on crypto marketplace (i.e. Binance).
Starting the game is not straightforward. That’s understandable because cryptocurrency and NFT are quite new. I’m grateful James helped me in building and purchasing the initial team.
The first obstacle: building the initial team.
Playing the game requires us to have an initial team consisting of 3 axies which we must buy using ETH in the axie marketplace. This is unlike the usual card games where we usually get the starting deck for free. I waited for weeks for the price of ETH to drop.
Buying a wrong axie means that we lose money until we can sell it in the marketplace. It happened to me once, worried me for days.
The second obstacle: purchasing axies.
Axies can be purchased using ETH that has been deposited in Ronin. We have to buy ETH at some crypto marketplace (i.e. Binance), then transfer it to MetaMask, then transfer it to Ronin. There is a gas fee on every transfer, which can change every second. It’s tricky if you want to buy just the right amount of ETH in crypto marketplace to buy the axie of your dreams.
I currently enjoy playing the game. It’s fun, quite challenging, and the learning curve isn’t too steep. The boring part is playing adventure against computer which we have to do everyday to earn SLP and complete daily quest. Well, no pain no gain hahaha..
