Squid Game, Have You Watched?

I’ve finished watching Squid Game, the movie everyone’s talking about these days. Squid Game got my curiosity when the meme filled up 9gag (hello fellow 9gagger!). I once wondered what those ◯△◻ were.

Here’s my review. Please beware for spoilers ahead.

Pros:

#1 The absurdity

The set of the movie is way absurd, and I love it! It’s somewhat artistic. Players play a deadly game on a colorful playground with fund back-sounds in the first game. The rooms are connected though a pastel-themed stairs.

#2 The touch of reality

Realizing the risk of death, the players are scared so the majority vote to end the game and then return to their lives. It happens after the 1st or 2nd game I suppose.

Resuming their life, most of them feel that life is hell, then decide to return to the game for glory, including our beloved main character Gi-hun. I imagine more than a few people understand the desperation in modern society.

#3 The surprise

The best surprises are often the most disappointing for viewers. One of them is the game of marbles when players are asked to choose one friend to play with. People naturally look for the closest or the strongest friend. Apparently they have to compete with their friend, with the losers terminated.

Cons:

The movie often easily predictable. For example when Sang-woo is trying to trick Ali, it’s quite suspicious in what he do. Also, I and my girlfriend can predict that the Front Man is the brother Jun-ho is looking for.

All in all, Squid Game is recommended. Their high ratings are well justified.
